Why?

Why?

  1. Why are we here? To serve God? To take care of the rest of the earth? Why do we need to know why we're here? Does it make our lives better to know this?

  3. Unreasonable (AKA Vince or Ben Goldsmith),

How do we know what we are? Thats very Matrixish, but we have a mind and thoughts and that is how we know we exist. Here on earth? No way we can prove that. But we do exist.

We are not here to serve 'God', or at least I don't think we are (who knows?). To take care of the rest of the earth? Nope, we're only destroying it. Well, there is no reason other then coincidence and evolution. I guess people that believe in god sometimes also believe in heaven which is a comfort.

  5. why is there a God? If there isn't, then why is there a Universe in which we evolved?

  6. why ask why? Why are we obsessed with knowing why? Why can we not be satisfied without knowing why? And why does there have to be an answer?

  7. What should we be satisfied with? No other animal wants to know why? They are satisfied with their instincts. Could it be that asking why separates us from other animals?

  8. Kamilah,

Why ask why? If you are philosophical, you would know the answer to the question. With all philosophy, knowing 'why' wouldn't change the world.

  9. How could we know if real is real and we aren't living in a fantasy land.

  10. And reasons, We are smarter that all other animals. We also have more reason.

  11. Alpha123,
RE: "How could we know if real is real and we aren't living in a fantasy land." You are correct that anything is possible. We could all be atoms on the inside of the stomach of the giant cosmic bovine! The question is not whether we can dream up any scenerio (or story) and assert it as a possible reality, but rather, what is REASONABLE to believe about reality based upon the evidence we see in the universe, our environment, and human nature.

  12. To Alpha123:

We have no idea if we are smarter than all other animals. We have no physical evidence that can prove your point.

  13. Why is there anything or anyone? Some people would say that the earth and everything on it was a coincidence. Others would say that everything was created with some greater purpose. Some believe in a combination of believe in a combination of coincidence and purpose. Personally I subscribe to the last theory. Can we ever really know which is true?

  14. But then you could just ask, why would some greater purpose need us if they could just use its celestial powers of creating stuff to achieve its goal on its own? I believe that asking Why? can be incredibly time wasting, unless it is actually a direct question such as, Why do baking soda and vinegar fizz up when you combine them?
