We are growing up in a very technologically advanced world. In the past century, we have made the computer, the internet, the iPhone (YAY!!!), cameras, that awesome 3D stuff used in Avatar, and many other things that will probably come in the future. But have you ever thought that maybe, technology will take over the world? Like someday, we'll be like the people in Walle, fat blobs sitting in motorized chairs? I wouldn't want this to happen to us, but I do feel that there are some technological things that we have left to discover. Do you think in the future, we will be having too much of a good thing? Too much technology? Or do you think that we will be able to compromise, and not get like that?
OH MY GOD THAT GAVE ME ANOTHER REALLY GOOD IDEA.
Okay so at one point in us climbing up on this technology ladder (hehe I love my metaphorical thinking) we will have to crash. Do you think before us modern humans, one of the older hominids had a "technology rise and crash"? And with that point stated, do you think that there will even be a technology crash? What do you think? :)
I think thats its fine if technology continues to evolve as long as we keep in mind then we can't be too dependent on it. As long as we are able to survive without it then technology is a great thing.
ReplyDeleteAs for tech rises and falls before us I doubt this as we would have found evidence of it
We can't let technology completely control everything we do. We need to have some features of life that we can still control ourselves, because if we don't, the human race will be doomed and technology will rule. That's what I think.
ReplyDeleteI believe in two reasons that we definitely will not be fat blobs like in Walle: A, even though some people have already begun to show a heavy reliance on technology and the comfort generated by technology (couch potatoes and gaming addicts), many people in this world still see that technology does not have to be the future and omnipotent leader of humankind. Many people follow programs making sure that they are getting exercise and do not heavily rely on technology (such as Mr. Brady and his beloved funboxes). I also believe that, with the development of technology, people will be able to create a way that keeps us up and beyond the technology we construct. Sure a computer can calculate the hardest math equations that we spend years on? But why? Because we program it. I believe that robots will never actually be able to really think for themselves, but can only be programmed to do things that would help humans further advance technology. Therefore, I believe that a robot will never turn to the dark side and kill us all, robots can only do what we allow them to do.
ReplyDeleteThat's not entirely true. The possibility of an AI is still out there, as far-fetched as it may seem. True, it seems impossible, and true, it would be incredibly hard to program something as complex as a human brain, able to make decisions, but it is still a possibility. I have a feeling that we will create an AI just for the purpose of creating an AI and saying we did it, but then it might get cocky and turn on us all. The chances of that are more than one in a quintillion, though, so don't get worried. :)
ReplyDeleteOkay, lets pretend that A: we actually MANAGED to create a robot with artificial intelligence B: this robot didn't cost millions of dollars to create, allowing us to make thousands of these robots and C: these robots could manage to overtake humans by using means of weaponry, traps, anything. (BTW, I don't think that we would create a robot that was aggressive towards humans AND carried some weapon that could potentially kill a human.) With artificial intelligence come EMOTIONS. Imagine how hard that would be, making a robot that can be happy, sad, angry, etc. Robots, so far, have been made without any artificial intelligence, and can only do what we tell them to do, no matter whether you give it a face or not. I believe that a robot will always use one thing to really operate, and that is the ability to react a certain way to something in certain situations. I think that this is what will continue to happen, with more and more advanced robots, the case will always be the same: a robot can react to a certain situation, but never think for itself.
ReplyDeleteThough programing an AI would be extremely difficult it is likely we could do it once we understand the human brain. As of now we certainly don't understand it enough to program it into a system, but when (and if) we do it wouldn't be to hard to program a similar system that would allow for emotions and free thought. As for someone creating an aggressive or violent robot, programing a structure similar to the human brain, especially one with complete free thought, would mean that a certain amount of aggression came hardwired in, along with the other emotions and instincts that are in a human brain.
