Immortality

This post was inspired by squabs's post. I was just thinking about immortality. Living forever sounds pretty great but really. Imagine that everyone you love dies and you are the only one still alive. All of your loved ones die and your the only one alive, knowing that it is useless to get attached because you know that in the end they will die too. When I was 7 I asked one of my friends if they could have any super power in the entire world what would it be and she answered I would live forever. At the time I didn't really realize how awful that would be. Living knowing that everyone that I loved will die and I will live forever... Just a thought :P

  1. I guess that in "evil character" movies when they want to live forever, it really shows how cold blooded they are. Some people have already lost everything, so one could say that they have nothing to live for, but they may argue that they have every reason to live because they can continue on living without constant grief, as the death of their loved ones may have happened a while ago. So your argument of seeing your loved ones dying in that case would not be valid. However, you would still not be able to love because they would die anyway. Though a corny reference, that is like Twilight. I'm sure if you could be immortal, the person that you are in love with could be too. I don't know. Just throwing out ideas.

  2. As Juliet says, I think it is "an honor most have not dreamed of", because in a way, it is an honor, but no one can really think of it seriously.

  3. I actually never thought it that way... That's a good observation. I guess you have to kinda think negatively sometimes... :D

  4. Heres sort of another point- What exactly is immortality? Immortality simply means LIVING forever. This means, you will be extremely old with the figure of someone of that age. As you grow older, it becomes harder to get fit and into a good shape. If you become fat, immortality would be pretty miserable. Even for someone as thin as a stick, with oldness comes physical incapabilities, loss of eyesight, and others. So in essence, immortality can be torture, unless you specify eternal YOUTH.

  5. Well do you want to die? If there was something in the middle, that would be nicer. This is where the concept of heaven comes in. People believe in heaven because they don't want to die and be in a state of limbo (or nothingness), and it is comforting to know that death is not the end. But they don't want to live forever...
But in heaven, aren't you supposed to live forever?
Im not exactly sure what point im trying to make, but im just throwing out something.
